Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your Whitikahu home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like Whitikahu.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your Whitikahu home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hi! I’m based in New Zealand and have over six years of experience caring for pets, plus I’m now a volunteer with the SPCA — where I’m also completing the Fear Free Shelter Program certification to learn how to reduce stress in shelter pets.As a proud cat mum myself, looking after my own cat has taught me how to be patient, gentle, and understanding of every pet’s needs. Over the years, I’ve also helped friends and neighbours with both cats and dogs: feeding them, walking dogs, cleaning litter boxes, and making sure they always feel safe and loved while their owners are away. For shy pets, I always take time to let them get used to my scent first, then slowly interact using their favourite toys to build trust. For energetic pets, I love keeping them active and happy with playtime and outdoor walks that match their energy level.I offer pet sitting at the owner’s home. I can help with feeding, walking, cleaning litter boxes, giving medications (if needed), playtime, and sending daily updates with photos or videos so you always know your furry friend is happy and safe.I treat every pet like my own — with love, attention, and care. Whether it’s cuddles, walks, or quiet company, your furry friends will be in good hands!

Hi! I’m Flor, a veterinarian from Argentina currently exploring New Zealand on a Working Holiday visa I have experience in veterinary medicine, surgery, animal care, and university teaching, and I’ve worked with dogs, cats, and exotic animals. Animals have always been a central part of my life, not only professionally, but personally too.I’m a calm, responsible, and outdoorsy person who loves nature, hiking, yoga, and simple living. After spending time traveling through Latin America, I learned how to adapt easily, communicate well with different people, and care for homes and animals with genuine attention and respect. As a pet sitter and house sitter, I offer more than companionship for your pets:confident handling of animalsexperience recognizing health or behavioral changesreliability in emergenciespatience with senior or anxious petsLove with your pet a clean, organized, and respectful presence in your homeI understand how important trust is when leaving your animals and home in someone else’s hands. My goal is always to make both you and your pets feel safe, relaxed, and cared for while you’re away I’m currently based in Hamilton area and happy to travel around New Zealand for the right sit.Looking forward to meeting you and your furry family

Hi, my love for our four legged friends started when I was very young when I got Mao and Ching, our Japanese spitzs when I was 8 years old. Unfortunately I lost them because of old age and didn't have anymore pets until I was already working. I got a Rottweiler named Skype and he grew up to be a very loving and playful big baby. I lost him to cancer. I am left with my fur nephew, Mustache, a loving dachsund/shitszu who is now in the Philippines with my parents. I miss him a lot and I only get to see him on video calls. I have a lot of hugs and love to give to our furry friends and I love walking and running around outdoors. They give me so much energy and pleasure just being around them. Seeing them happy and able to run around witht them and play with them gives me so much joy. I would be make sure that I would be very good with them and treat them as if they were my own. Looking forward to meeting and spend time with them. Would like to care of vaccinated dogs of any breed. My experience with taking care of them, playing with them and taking them to walk outside.

Hi!! My name is Kitty and I am a farm girl from the Waikato living with many pets and animals throughout my life. On the homestead, we have 3 big farm dogs (mostly for decoration as they don't heard cattle lol) Lucy, golden retriever, Hershey, choc Lab and newest addition Molly, a Red retriever. We have 4 cats, most of which were strays found on the farm and taken into our home. Boy, Lynx, Elsie and Friday are vip members or our big and ever growing family.

I have experience looking after cats and dogs, both big and small. Tending to sick animals and catering to the individual needs of each pet. I am comfortable administering medication and very familiar with discipline techniques used for training pets. I have recently finished a 2-week long house sit with a cocker spaniel and tabby cat. I would love to hear from you about your pet sitting needs so please do send me a message! ️

I am available for dog walking, house visits and house sitting at your request.

Hello, Jessica and Lukas here! We are a couple of working professionals in the education sector, in our late 20’s, looking to fill a void of not being able to get an animal due to rental restrictions and to share our love for animals with your fur babies! We are fairly new to this and are hoping you will give us the opportunity to offer you a professional, quality and loving experience! We pride ourselves on being kind, punctual, professional and reliable. Both of us grew up around a lot of cats and dogs and have experience with both as kittens and puppies, young animals, and senior. We pet sit often for family members and family friends for animals of all ages. We also have alot of experience dog walking with dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages from within our families and close friends. We absolutely love the outdoors and would love to share that experience with your animals.
We offer dog walking and charge by the hour so up to you how long you'd like us to walk your dog for. Once we have a relationship with your fur baby we do also offer off leash play. We typically walk the dog within your area for shorter walks and for longer we can go to parks, dog parks etc upon your request and your animals needs. We will organise all of that when you get in contact with us.
We do offer dog sitting at your own premises, we can do overnights and extended stays if required. We will water plants, bring in mail and ensure the property is looked after while your away, you just let us know what you need.
We offer home visits, in the weekends and holidays. We will hang out with your animal and make sure they are fed and looked after.
We are able to administer medication if required ( not anything injectable )
We are avaliable late afternoon/evenings on weekdays and avaliable all day on weekends. We also have full avaliablilty in school holidays.

Hola! My name is Sergio, and I’m a veterinarian from Colombia with a deep passion for animals and nature. Throughout my life, I’ve cared for many beloved pets—cats, dogs, and even horses—and my career has only strengthened my understanding and love for all creatures. I’m known to be reliable, friendly, and genuinely devoted to the well-being of animals, which is why many have entrusted me with their pets’ care over the years.

I’m currently in New Zealand and am also exploring opportunities to house sit. For me, house sitting is not only a way to help others feel at ease while they’re away, but also a wonderful chance to discover the natural beauty and unique places this country has to offer. I treat every home and every pet with the same respect and care I would my own. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

We are Peter and Milly, together we are PillyPets! We are from London but travelling in New Zealand on a working holiday visa. We both grew up with pets, bunny rabbits and cats but we love all animals and can't wait to meet you and your pets.
We haven't been able to have our own pets in London but it would be amazing to take care of pets along the way on our travels. We have been house sitting since November 2024 in NZ, travelling around in a campervan and we've met so many lovely people and pets.We have years of experience taking care of small and medium sized dogs and in the last few months we have experience caring for large dogs also. We also have years of experience taking care of cats, Peter's family have lots of British Shorthair cats and we have also pet sit for cats and dogs sit on other pet sitting websites.
