Top cities for house sitting in New Zealand

Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your Patumahoe home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like Patumahoe.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your Patumahoe home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hi,
Im 35 and live in South Auckland in transport and logistics. I have 2 pets and just love them to bits, I am offering to walk your pets, do drop ins or pet sit. I know how it can feel when you have to leave your pets and you want to make sure they are in safe hands. You can rely on me to treat your animals like they are my own. I am very flexible on hours of the day and days off the week just happy to make it as easy for you as possible. I am new to this but you can trust me to look after your pets and provide the best service. I hope you can look past my lack or experience and just know that I am honest and trustworthy and will help look after your pets. I am a full time working professional who is just looking for some additional income and I just love animals so it's a perfect way to combine my need for extra income and my love of animals. I can work with you on whatever you need. I live in a great neighbourhood with parks and many places to explore and I have a large backyard for your pets to enjoy

Hi, Im Monique. 32 year old with a passion for animals and their welfare. I have signed up to pet care to help pay some bills with my spare time, and I also love meeting new animals and their parents! My own dog, Crash, passed away in 2025 and though I do have a busy lifestyle, I certainly find myself with a big Crash sized hole in my life that could be used to give other pets some love and care while I am not yet ready to add another dog to my life.
Experience
I have had an interest in animals all my life, and particularly love cats and dogs, but all animals are amazing creatures and their comfort and happiness is of the utmost importance to me. I have owned many cats and Crash was my first dog.
Crash was a Border Collie, in our 8 years together I developed a special appreciation of what herding breeds need and thrive on. He was also a highly reactive dog in his younger years, and so I am used to managing triggers with reactive dogs. Crash also was blind for the last 3 odd years of his life, and I was able to help him still lead a full life where he had off lead adventures 1-2 times a week despite his lack of sight.
I have volunteered at the SPCA for a number of years with both the cats and dogs, with the adoptable ones and the incoming animals so have had experience with many different personalities and energy levels. I also foster shelter cats, and understand the stress animals go through when their world changes. I have done all the dirty jobs and have no issues with the not so desirable part of pet ownership. I have also worked in a vet clinic before, on the front desk. Though I am not clinically trained, I am able to identify when pets may need vet care and have some basic knowledge on pet medical care.
What to expect
I believe pet parents know their pet best, so I am keen to be lead by you on exactly what care works best for your pet! While I am not comfortable using aversive tools, I am comfortable setting boundaries and expectations through repetition and positive reinforcement with dogs.
I am unlikely to take your dog anywhere off lead, unless it is an extremely safe environment and I have already built a level of trust with your dog. I would never let a dog off lead without discussing with the owner first. I am comfortable running with a dog on lead, so if your dog needs a run I can run up to 5km with them along side me. Please note for housesitting bookings there may be a travel charge for houses excessively outside of the Franklin Area. This would be discussed with you first and not charged without agreement from yourself first.
If you have any questions do not be afraid to reach out, I believe that when trusting your pet with someone they need to be transparent about what is happening so you can 100% trust us to do our best. I am realistic with what I am able to acheive outside of my busy full time job, so if Im not able to meet your expectations I will be upfront about that. Absolutely keen to chat about your requirements and if I can help, I will!

I’ve had a deep love for animals since childhood, and that passion has only grown stronger over the years. Having always had pets of my own, I understand how much they mean to a family and how important it is to find someone you can trust to care for them.
My experience includes caring for pets belonging to family and friends, as well as working in a kennels and cattery for 1.5 years. I’ve also completed a Certificate in Animal Care through the Waikato Institute of Technology, where I gained hands-on experience with a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, fish, terrapins, and more.
I am confident working with dogs of all breeds and sizes and am happy to walk multiple dogs or care for more than one pet in the home. Whether your dog has a regular walking schedule or specific training cues, I’m happy to follow your routine to ensure consistency and comfort. I also offer light training reinforcement and grooming upon request.
Providing pets with love, structure, and safety is my top priority. Whether you're looking for a reliable dog walker, someone to house-sit with your pets, or simply need an extra hand, I’m here to help with care you can count on.

Hiya! Pet enthusiast here, who would love to look after your babies into their new home away from home
A South Auckland local, who has always been an animal person, grown up around chickens and cows and cats and doggos, your pet will get treated as one of my own, given all the love it could possibly imagine, and spoilt beyond measure. Happy to abide by any of your own house rules - dog sleeps in the crate, cool. Dog wants to sleep in my bed, also cool.
Household has a miniature dachshund named Peach and a cat named Meow (the name has a long story!) both who love visitors and provide entertainment for your own pet. We love taking dogs out to our local beach Maraetai on leash, on walks around the park, to cafes or even Bunnings, so you know your doggo will never be alone and go wherever we go. We have flexible work conditions so somebody is always home when your pet is here. The property is our own and super small dog (think ramps, etc).
We have doggy-sat countless dogs in our house, all of whom have had an amazing time and I haven't yet looked after a dog who doesn't become my best friend! Also have lots of experience with cats (I mean, Meow adopted us, not the other way round, of course) for any day visits you require.
Also open to house sitting for short periods of time, where I will look after your house as my own.
Due to having our own pets in the house, we will only accept vaccinated and not sick pets for stays in our home.

Hi! I’m Caitlin, a qualified veterinary nurse with a genuine love for animals of all shapes and sizes. Having worked with pets professionally, I’m confident caring for dogs, cats and other companion animals, including administering medication, monitoring their health and recognising when something isn’t quite right.

I’m an active, reliable and caring person who understands that pets are family. Whether your pet loves long walks, playtime or simply having someone to keep them company, I’ll tailor my care to their individual routine and personality. I typically provide 30–60 minute walks, depending on your dog’s age, breed and energy levels, and I’m happy to maintain feeding schedules, medications and any special routines to help your pet feel comfortable while you’re away.

I offer flexible availability and will always do my best to accommodate your pet’s needs. As a veterinary nurse, I’m confident remaining calm in unexpected situations and know how to recognise when a pet may need veterinary attention, giving you extra peace of mind.

I also take great pride in treating every home with the utmost respect. I’m clean, tidy and trustworthy, and I’ll care for your home as though it were my own. I understand how important it is to return to a happy pet and a well-looked-after home.

I am a reliable, caring, and patient animal lover who genuinely enjoys spending time with pets and making them feel safe, comfortable, and happy while their owners are away. Becoming a pet sitter is something I am passionate about because I understand how important pets are as part of the family. I love building trust with both pets and their owners and providing the same level of care and attention that I would give to my own animals. I always used to feed and give shelter to stray animals when I lived overseas. I now have 3 rescue dogs from the shelter. I have previous experience caring for dogs and other pets, including feeding, walking, playtime, cleaning, and giving them companionship throughout the day. I am comfortable with different pet personalities, from energetic and playful pets to shy or older animals that need extra patience and gentle care. I understand the importance of routines and making sure pets feel calm and secure in their environment.
As a pet sitter, I focus on creating a safe, clean, and loving space where pets can feel relaxed and well cared for. I am responsible, attentive, and always make sure pets receive plenty of affection, exercise, and supervision.
For the safety and wellbeing of all animals in my care, I only accept vaccinated pets into my home. This helps maintain a healthy environment and ensures every pet is protected and comfortable during their stay.

Hi yah!
My name is Sam and I love all things pets! we currently have one small dog, Pepper, and live out in Takanini. I recently have had a change in career which allows me to spend more time at home than I have previously, so looking to spend some more time with furry friends!
I have been brought up with dogs and pets my entire life, so have experience looking after all range of dogs and pets!
Growing up I had experience with Rotties all the way down to pugs!
Our home is small, however we do regular walks and adventures with our pup and will do the same with yours! We like to go around walks in the neighbourhood, in the Hunua Ranges and at the beach! Your pup will need to be fully vaccinated and house trained to stay with us!
Please reach out with a message if you have any further questions. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi there! I’m Queenie — a caring and dependable pet lover based in Wattle Downs Auckland . I’ve been helping friends and families with pet and house sitting for several years, and I absolutely love the joy (and cuddles!) that come with spending time with animals.

My service includes:
- House sitting (overnight if required): cleaning, laundry, plant care, ironing
- Pet sitting: visiting, walking (a good 30' or more if required), feeding, showering, playing

I treat every furry friend like a true friend — making sure they’re happy, safe, and loved at their own home while you’re away. Whether it’s walks, playtime, feeding, or just keeping them company, I take pride in creating a calm and comfortable environment for them. ‍

I have rich experience with small to medium dogs, cats (elderly cats on medication!), chickens and bunnies. I’ve got some wonderful references from happy pet and house owners who appreciate my reliability, attention to detail, and genuine care. You can read them in my profile.

Pet sitting isn’t just a side hustle for me — it’s something I truly enjoy. So if you’re looking for someone who’ll care for your pets and your home as if they were their own, I’d love to help!
