Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your Palmerston North home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like Palmerston North.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your Palmerston North home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hi there! My name is Ashleigh, I’m 21 years old and originally from Hamilton. I’m currently a fourth-year veterinary student at Massey University in Palmerston North, based in the Summerhill area.
I’ve grown up on a dairy farm, so animals have always been a huge part of my life. I’ve cared for a wide range of animals including dogs, cats, sheep, chickens, and cows, which has given me a strong understanding of both the joys and responsibilities that come with pet ownership.
Pet sitting is a great way for me to support my studies while spending time doing something I genuinely love. I really value the bond formed with each animal and take pride in making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for while their owners are away.
What I offer:

Dog walking: Usually 30–60 minutes per walk, but I’m happy to tailor this to suit your dog’s energy levels and needs.
Home visits: Feeding, fresh water, playtime, enrichment, and plenty of attention. I aim to keep your pet’s routine as consistent as possible.
Updates: I provide regular photo and message updates so you can feel reassured while you’re away.
Flexibility: With my university schedule, I can adapt to your pet’s routine and specific requirements.

Safety & care:As a veterinary student, I’m confident in recognising signs of illness or distress. In the unlikely event of an emergency, I will contact you immediately and can take your pet to your preferred vet (or the nearest clinic if needed).
I also love being outdoors and going for walks, so I’d be more than happy to take your dog out for longer walks or adventures if that’s something they enjoy.
I’d love the opportunity to meet you and care for your furry family members, giving them the attention, companionship, and care they deserve while you’re away

Hi I'm Olivia
I've grown up surrounded by pets my whole life as well as farm animals. I'm a vet student at Massey and love to be active!
A little bit about me: I grew up in Gisborne on a sheep and beef farm with all the pets you can imagine from rabbits to calves, pet lambs, cats, chickens and foals! We have four working dogs at home as well as a Labrador who is our gorgeous old house dog. I am confident around dogs and understand anxious or fractious dogs and how to deal with them. I have lots of experience with dog waking and looking after other peoples dogs as I completed this for service hours for Duke of Edinburgh Award. I love to run and walk usually for around an hour each day, so would love to take your furry friend with me!
I can also offer house sitting and pet sitting at your home.

I'm a huge animal lover, and I'm so excited about the possibility of being your pet sitter! From the moment I could walk, I've been drawn to animals. I grew up with dogs, cats, lambs, bunnies, and Guinea Pigs so I understand the joy and responsibility that comes with caring for pets.

My main motivation for pet sitting is simple: I genuinely love spending time with animals. I find their unique personalities and quirks endlessly fascinating. Seeing a pet happy and comfortable in my care brings me so much joy. I also understand how important it is for pet owners to have peace of mind when they're away. Knowing that their furry, scaled, or feathered family members are safe, loved, and well-cared for is crucial, and I strive to provide exactly that.

My services include everything from basic care like feeding, watering, and walks to more specialized needs like administering medication or providing playtime and enrichment activities. I'm comfortable with all types of pets, from dogs and cats to birds, reptiles, and small mammals. I'm also happy to customize my services to meet your pet's individual needs and preferences. I'm reliable, trustworthy, and committed to providing the best possible care for your beloved companions.

Have you been coming home burnt out but your 4 legged companion still needs their exercise and attention? Are you planning a trip away without your fur babies? I would love the opportunity to help out! I would best describe myself as a highly organised and reliable pet sitter with a passion for animal care. I currently am 23 years old and work as a dental assistant. I have a fur baby of my own she is a tabby girl who is super friendly and gentle. I absolutely love caring for people and animals alike! I currently have experience with my own pets (I have grown up with dogs of various breeds and sizes) and pets of friends & family and would love if you gave me the opportunity to keep your pet safe and active. I am passionate about cooking, baking, rollerskating and anything crafty or outdoorsy! Rates are not set as I am not quite sure of what to charge as of yet, can be available for the right hours with the ability to provide consistency where needed. I live in a town home with plenty of parks and off road walking areas. I love checking out new walks so if there's a preference as to where I walk your bestfriend please let me know! I have currently been walking a 9 year old Jack Russell every evening and we are loving it! My partner and I love to keep active and he would be happy to help out hands on with the care of your Bestfriend :)
