Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your Nelson home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like Nelson.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your Nelson home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hi, my name is Adam! I've had a lot of experience with pets over the years, having had multiple dogs (from chihuahuas to Labradors) and cats both in New Zealand and in my native UK.
I've offered pet sitting previously back in Birmingham (the most interesting experience being 2 weeks looking after 10 border collies, very tiring) and would love to get back into it now I've settled in Stoke, Nelson with my partner and our cat Henry.
I understand that a pet is a huge part of the family and it can be stressful sorting out their care when you need to go away (I've been there and understand the stress) so providing them with companionship, exercise, and stimulation is as important as feeding them or cleaning up after them. With this at the front of mind, I will send through updates and photographs of each visit or walk so you have peace of mind whilst I take care of your pet.
My preference is to primarily offer walks and visits to your home as our current setup would not suit having additional animals stay with us but could potentially perform overnight stays in your home if absolutely required.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
I look forward to hearing from you about your pets and how I can help.

I was born and raised in Canada and always had two dogs. As I went into uni and eventually flatting, there were always animals around in the house, whether dogs or cats. We even had a goat for a bit!
I have been in New Zealand for the last five years working as an engineering geologist, and find that sometimes it gets a bit quiet and I miss having animals around. I love talking dogs for walks, whether on bigger missions or just down the street. Similarily, coming home to a little cat skipping away from the door as you arrive home is a simple yet wholesome feeling. For me, I can't get my own animal right now, so being flexible in taking care of other family pets is the next best thing!
Currently, I often pet sit for some of my coworkers and friends with the animals coming to my home or I go to their house. It is often easier for me to go to theirs and keep a routine for the pet when the owner is away.
I am available to house sit with your pet. I can stay for as long as required for you to enjoy your time away and feel confident your pet is happy and your home is well looked after. I can administer oral medications and am happy to wash and brush out your pet. If I am completing a house-sit, I will take the necessary security precautions to make sure your home is safe and treated well (water garden, mowing lawns, etc.) while your pet and I remain there.

Hi again , John writing this for you , I have been volunteering at the SPCA Nelson for the past 2 years most afternoons with the canine department, helping out with the cats now and then. I have always loved the animals, and always had cats and dogs throughout my life.At the shelter I work with all kinds of dogs and puppies, it's been heartwarming, and at times heartbreaking,..It's been too expensive to rent my own abode and so a couple years ago I had to have the Renwick SPCA find Lizzie the Huntaway cross a home, which they did, and I have been renting a caravan. The lady ladies cat Patrick and the neighbors cat Cloud make the most of the caravan too. And so for me, spending time with them, and the dogs at the shelter is really awesome. If you would like your dog walked or looked after for the day and , or your cat diligently cared for please let me know. If you would like referes for past pet care I can oblige. Thanks

Hi, I’m Ruby! I absolutely love all animals, especially dogs and cats!

I’ve had hands-on experience looking after dogs for family and friends, including feeding, walking, and caring for them in their own homes, so one year of experience. For example, I’ve cared for dogs while owners were away by sticking to their usual routines, taking them on daily walks, feeding them, and making sure they felt comfortable and settled in their space. I've stayed over at houses overnight to house sit and look after their animals a couple of times as well.

I’ve grown up around animals and have cared for dogs with different personalities — from energetic dogs who need longer walks and playtime, to more relaxed or older dogs who prefer a slower pace and extra care. I've had experiences when there has been aggressive dogs on walks where I stayed calm and went to the other side of the street to avoid confrontation, I'm a quick thinker to make sure your pet and others are always safe.

I usually walk 1–2 dogs at a time depending on their size, behaviour, and your preference, and I’m confident reinforcing basic training like sitting, waiting, and walking calmly on the lead.

I’m also comfortable giving basic medication orally if needed and taking extra care with senior dogs or pets with special requirements.

On walks, I always prioritise safety. I stay aware of surroundings, other dogs, and anything that could cause stress. If a dog is nervous or reactive, I stay calm and patient and adjust the walk to suit them. In an emergency, I would contact you immediately and take your pet to the nearest vet if needed.

I work Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, so I’m available the other days for short or long walks, house visits, playtime, and more. On workdays, I can also do a 1-hour walk after around 5:30pm and am happy to pick your dog up as I have a car and not worried about dog hair haha!

I live a pretty simple and steady lifestyle with work, going for walks, and spending time with my family. I’m doing pet sitting on the side to save for travel next year, but it’s something I genuinely enjoy and look forward to.

I always keep owners updated with messages and photos so you feel reassured while you’re away (lots of selfies and 0.5s)

I would love to meet you and your doggo and chat some more!
