Top cities for cat sitting in New Zealand

Many cat owners will understand that cats can be fussy and prefer their own home environment rather than an unfamiliar place like a cattery or cat hotel. Although some cats can adapt to cat boarding if they have to, most cats become stressed when transported somewhere new.

This is where a friendly Nelson Pawshake cat feeder or carer can help. Our Nelson cat sitting expert can come and visit your cat while you are away on holiday or at work. A cat sitter can even stay overnight if required, which is far less stressful than sending your feline friend to a cattery for cat boarding. Whether you just need a sitter for a couple of hours or someone to visit each day for a week, our Nelson cat sitters can tailor their service to suit you and please even the fussiest kitty.

Although most cats are independent, having a cat carer visit has a lot of benefits. Your chosen Pawshake cat sitter can feed, freshen up the water bowl, tidy the litter tray, and spend quality time with your cat. And unlike a cattery or cat hotel, your cat can chill out in their own familiar space.

Finally, every booking with Pawshake is with a verified carer and includes the Pawshake Guarantee and veterinary coverage, so you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your feline companion!

Hi! I’m Alex — a lifelong dog lover, active dad, and someone who genuinely enjoys spending time outdoors with animals. I have two dogs of my own (a beagle and a husky), so I understand how important it is to find someone you can fully trust with your furry family member.
My goal is simple: to provide a calm, safe, and fun environment where your dog feels comfortable, cared for, and part of the family. Whether it’s walks, daycare, or overnight care, I bring patience, structure, and positive energy to every dog I look after.
I’m very active and love getting outside, so dogs in my care enjoy regular exercise and stimulation. A typical day includes walks, playtime, rest, and plenty of attention. Walks are usually 30–60 minutes, and I tailor them to your dog’s energy level — whether that’s a relaxed stroll or a more adventurous outing.
We’re also lucky to have a large, secure outdoor space where dogs can safely run, play, and burn off energy. It’s perfect for games like fetch, exploring, or just relaxing in the fresh air. If suitable, your dog may also have the opportunity to socialise and play with our dogs, who are friendly and well-socialised — but this is always done gradually and based on temperament to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
For daycare and boarding, I keep numbers small so each dog gets proper attention. I take time to introduce dogs slowly and safely to ensure everyone feels comfortable. I follow your dog’s usual routine as closely as possible, including feeding, sleep, and exercise. Dogs are always supervised when together, and I prioritise a calm, controlled environment.
Because I have a young child at home, safety is something I take very seriously. Dogs are never left unattended in situations where safety could be compromised, and I ensure all interactions are managed carefully and respectfully.
I also have a background in teaching, which means I’m reliable, communicative, and attentive to individual needs. I’m comfortable working with different temperaments, including energetic dogs, nervous dogs, puppies, and older dogs who may need a slower pace.
Your dog’s wellbeing always comes first. I’m happy to provide updates, photos, and clear communication so you feel confident and at ease while your pet is in my care.
Additional details:
• Walks: 30–60 minutes depending on your preference
• Dogs per day: Small numbers to ensure quality care
• Fully supervised environment
• Only vaccinated dogs accepted
• Happy to follow your dog’s routine exactly
At the end of the day, I treat every dog like my own — with care, attention, and genuine enjoyment.

Hi, I’m Paul, a lifelong animal lover with years of experience caring for pets and house-sitting.
I grew up with dogs and cats, have had pets of my own, and for the past few years, I’ve been regularly pet-sitting for friends, colleagues, and clients. I currently have two cats, ChewBacca and Bacon, and I’m privileged to be seen as their personal butler.
Availability & Services:
I’m available for pet care mornings, afternoons, and most evenings - I am very flexible regarding time/day for house visits and sittings.
Dog Walking – Walks are typically 30 minutes, but can be longer if required, depending on your dog’s energy levels. I enjoy beach walks, parks, and safe neighbourhood strolls. If your pup has a favourite route, I’m happy to follow their routine! I can take them to The Back Beach, Tahunanui Beach Dog Park, or The Grampians for a good hill climb, even Marsden Valley Dog Park—whatever suits them and their energy levels.
Home Visits (Dog/Cat Feeding & Check-ins) – Visits are around 30 minutes per trip and include feeding, fresh water, litter cleaning, playtime, and cuddles (if your cat is up for it!). I can also water plants, bring in the mail, and take out the bins.
House Sitting – I can stay overnight and work from your home during the day (as long as there’s WiFi), ensuring your pets have company for most of the day and all evening. More companionship = less pet stress, especially in their familiar home environment. I also keep an eye on security, water plants, enjoy gardening and maintain a tidy home while you're away.
Additional Care – I have experience administering oral medication to both dogs and cats. If your pet needs extra care, just let me know.
I’ve looked after everything from energetic young dogs to older pets needing extra attention, even fostering dogs with behavioral issues for the SPCA.
Your pets' happiness and well-being are my top priority - let’s chat!

I’m Molly, a passionate dog lover with years of experience. I've been dog walking and sitting for family and friends since I was 12, and that early experience sparked my love for caring for dogs. Now, as a proud dog owner myself, I understand how important it is to provide the best care, attention, and exercise for your furry companion. I genuinely enjoy making each walk an enjoyable experience for your dog, whether it's a brisk walk around the neighborhood or a fun outing at the park. I offer 30-minute walks, and home check-ins are typically about 20 minutes. I tailor every walk to your dog’s unique needs, personality, and energy level. If your dog requires oral medication, I am happy to administer it as needed. I take pride in offering loving, reliable, and professional care, ensuring your dog gets the exercise and joy they deserve. Your dog’s happiness and well-being are my top priority. I am available on weekends, Mondays, and some mornings and afternoons during the week. I would love to help keep your dog happy, healthy, and active! Feel free to reach out to book a walk or ask any questions about my services️

I was born and raised in Canada and always had two dogs. As I went into uni and eventually flatting, there were always animals around in the house, whether dogs or cats. We even had a goat for a bit!
I have been in New Zealand for the last five years working as an engineering geologist, and find that sometimes it gets a bit quiet and I miss having animals around. I love talking dogs for walks, whether on bigger missions or just down the street. Similarily, coming home to a little cat skipping away from the door as you arrive home is a simple yet wholesome feeling. For me, I can't get my own animal right now, so being flexible in taking care of other family pets is the next best thing!
Currently, I often pet sit for some of my coworkers and friends with the animals coming to my home or I go to their house. It is often easier for me to go to theirs and keep a routine for the pet when the owner is away.
I am available to house sit with your pet. I can stay for as long as required for you to enjoy your time away and feel confident your pet is happy and your home is well looked after. I can administer oral medications and am happy to wash and brush out your pet. If I am completing a house-sit, I will take the necessary security precautions to make sure your home is safe and treated well (water garden, mowing lawns, etc.) while your pet and I remain there.
