Hi, I'm Tyra!
Originally from South Africa, I moved to New Zealand at 16 to finish school and pursue my studies — a journey that’s been deeply shaped by my lifelong love for animals. Growing up surrounded by wildlife sparked a passion that led me to complete a Bachelor of Science and now work at Hamilton Zoo, where I contribute to the conservation and care of wild animals every day.

My experience with animals goes well beyond the zoo. I’ve been pet sitting for friends, family, and colleagues since I was 15, and truly love connecting with animals of all shapes and sizes. I also have a beloved cat named Taz, who brings so much joy to my life — and reminds me just how special the bond between people and pets can be.
