About Kathleen

Hello, my name is Kathleen, although most people call me Kathy.

I have grown up with and cared for animals all my life, from pigeons and chickens to horses, rabbits, cats, and dogs. I adore all types of pets and believe they are an important part of the family, deserving the same love, care, and respect that we give to people.

In my early twenties, I spent a lot of time with my sister-in-law, who was a veterinary nurse at a South Auckland veterinary clinic. Her passion for animal care inspired me to begin studying veterinary nursing myself later in life after becoming a solo mum. Unfortunately, due to tragic personal circumstances, I was unable to complete my studies. However, my interest in animal health and welfare never stopped, and I have continued to educate myself on animal care over the years.

My daughters have grown up surrounded by rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, cats, and dogs, and they share my love for animals. I believe caring for pets helps teach children responsibility, compassion, and an understanding of life's natural cycle.

Recently, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our beloved dog, Memphis, who developed progressive cancer at the age of 13. Memphis came into our lives as a puppy after the passing of my daughters' father and became a very special part of our family. He was loyal, protective, and always by our side. Losing him has been incredibly difficult, and for now, we have chosen not to get another dog. Instead, I would love the opportunity to share my time, care, and affection with the pets of other families.

For over 14 years, I worked as a nanny for two different families, a role that often included house-sitting and pet care. I take pride in being reliable, trustworthy, and respectful of other people's homes and belongings. Families returned home to happy pets and a well-maintained house, and I always ensure pets have fresh water, a safe environment, and plenty of attention while their owners are away.

I enjoy a quiet lifestyle and spend my free time gardening, playing with our cat Sassy, and feeding the neighbourhood ducks and occasional wandering chicken that visit our home. One of my greatest joys is watching the ducklings with their mums and seeing how protective they are with their babies.

Over the years, we have also welcomed several animals into our family whose owners could no longer care for them, including two dogs and a cat. While the dogs have since passed away from old age, we still have Sassy cat. She originally belonged to neighbours who moved away, but after returning to her old home four times, they asked if we would take her in. She has since moved with us three times and happily remains part of our family.

I am 58 years old and have spent most of my life working in roles that required responsibility, honesty, and dedication. I always give 100% to whatever I do. I am confident using my own judgement when needed, while also following any specific instructions you may have for your pets. Communication is important to me, and I will always be open and honest if there is anything you should know or that I need to know.

As my children are now grown and I am not currently working full-time, I have the flexibility to spend quality time with your pets and help ensure your home remains secure and cared for while you are away.

It would be a privilege to care for your pets and provide you with peace of mind, knowing they are safe, loved, and well looked after in your absence. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I look forward to the opportunity to help care for both your pets and your home. 🐾🐾
