About Rachelle
Hi, I’m Rachelle. I previously worked as a manager in rest home, hospital and palliative care, and my dogs came to work with me every day. I grew up on a farm and have had dogs all my life. Over the years, my much-loved companions have included Golden Retrievers and a tiny Chihuahua, so I have experience caring for dogs both big and small. These days, I share my home with my lovely wee Millie.
After a fall and deciding against back surgery, I chose to work part-time from home. That decision was also about Millie, who experiences separation anxiety and feels happiest with me nearby. I’m home all day, and dog sitting feels like a natural fit—I love having dogs around and have the time and space to give them plenty of attention.
I welcome dogs from only one household at a time, whether that’s one dog or two who live together. This means your dog will share my home with just Millie and, if applicable, their own companion. Keeping things small allows me to get to know your dog, notice what helps them settle and give them the individual care and affection they deserve. They’ll be part of my everyday life, with plenty of time for cuddles, play and simply being together.
My home is peaceful and surrounded by trees, with a lovely big lawn, secure fencing and security cameras on the property. There are separate outdoor areas available if needed. I spend a lot of time outside, so your dog can enjoy the freedom of being inside or outside with me during the day. I always enjoy taking the dogs out for walks, with the pace and length suited to their age, energy and needs.
Millie is a sweet, gentle girl, and my home is best suited to friendly dogs who are comfortable with another dog. We’ll discuss your dog’s temperament and care needs beforehand, then arrange a meet-and-greet so you can see my home and make sure your dog and Millie are comfortable together.
I offer daytime care, overnight stays and longer-term stays if needed. Whether your dog is here for a day or an extended stay, they’ll enjoy the same personal care, company and affection, with garden time, walks and feeding to your instructions. We’ll agree on care hours, drop-off and collection times, and the length and frequency of walks before booking.
Visiting dogs are welcomed as part of the family. They’re welcome to sleep in my room if that helps them settle, and I’ll follow their usual feeding, sleeping and exercise routines as closely as possible.
Separate dog walking is also available by arrangement on days when I’m not hosting dogs for daycare or overnight stays.
I’m close to Christchurch Airport, making drop-off and collection easy around your trip. Having previously been a five-star Airbnb host for around seven years, I’m well used to early departures and late arrivals. Early or late drop-offs and pick-ups are welcome by arrangement. If you’d rather head home for a sleep after your flight, we can also discuss arranging to have your dog dropped home later.
I want you to enjoy your time away knowing your dog is being cared for personally, with plenty of affection and a comfortable home where they belong.
