Main Profile

I am a 35 year old who has volunteered at the SPCA and seen a lot of pets. My experience is mostly with dogs and cats. I visit my sisters cats and care for them often, my house is also their holiday home. I do not have any pets right now but really enjoy meeting animals. The pictures on my profile are mostly former pets.

The profile pictures of me are a bit older. I have lately put on a bit of weight. After my dog Archie passed away, I do not go on as many walks as I used to!

Dog boarding at my home:

I prefer to board dogs for only a few days at a time. I sometimes decline long stays and/or multiple dogs, just due to the amount of time and effort. But feel free to ask. You can check the photos to see the house space.

Your pet will be taken for 1-2 short daily walks and rarely ever left alone. This is my mother's house so she will also watch your dog alongside me. Your pet won't have any other animal companion at my house, only me and my mother, so be aware of that if you choose to have your pet stay over. Because of the house space and small outdoor area, I recommend you check other Pawshakers first if you have a larger dog(e.g. Labrador). It is a comfortable apartment and the dog(s) can usually sleep anywhere they like.

House Sitting:

I have found I am more comfortable with shorter stays. So I may decline anything longer than a few days. I sometimes found it stressful to stay away from home for long periods. 

I can do regular daily chores such as take the mail in and water a few plants. You should specify the things that need doing while you are away. I would prefer to have WiFi access and I will need an appropriate place to sleep. If I have to go out for some reason or part of the day, I will usually contact you first.You will get regular photo updates. Dogs will get a full walk included, similar to what is described in the dog walking section.

Dog Walking:

The average walk will be 40-50 minutes. If the dog is more active it is fine to request a longer period. Please provide your own leash. Once I know your pet, I may occasionally want to take them in the car to a place like one of the Christchurch parks. In this case they could be gone longer and I would allow them off leash there, with your permission. Unless cancelled I will show up regardless of weather as I find most dogs are usually happy to go unless the rain is heavy. If you are not home, you will need to give me access to the area of the house where your dog is, e.g. via spare key. I will usually send pictures of the walk.

Home Visits:

This option is ideal for feeding cats. Each visit is about 30 minutes or so. I can do small house chores for you during this time. I will interact with your pet during the visit and see if they are happy. I can give them food and check water. You should specify the full list of things that need doing while you are away. You can get an update from me as often as you desire. e.g. a picture each visit

This option is usually not ideal for dogs being left alone for long periods of time, as it is more of a quick check up. Full dog walks are usually not included with this service, unless you ask for them. If you would like them, request them with the booking and I will add them to the visit, usually at the Dog Walking price. Regardless, I can still take them outside for 10-20 minutes to do a poo and have a change of scenery, even if you do not book a walk.
