I’m Shayne, an 18-year-old full-time student from Tahiti.

Back home, I grew up surrounded by my pets, 4 dogs and 1 cat, who I miss very much. I say “who” because I truly see pets as part of the family. Growing up with them gave me a deep understanding of different animal personalities, needs, and routines. My oldest dog, Frostie, was adopted in 2012 after we rescued his mum, and caring for him over the years taught me the importance of long-term care, patience, and genuine love for animals.

One thing that really shows how much I love pets is that even though I’m allergic to cat fur, I couldn’t resist when my mum rescued our cat, I immediately fell in love and begged my parents to keep him. Unfortunately, I can’t have pets with me in Auckland due to building restrictions, but pet sitting allows me to share my love and care with animals while supporting owners when they’re away.

I’m friendly, calm, and patient with both dogs and cats, and I have experience caring for pets of different ages, sizes, and temperaments. Our first dog, Frostie, is a Bichon Frise–Löwchen mix. In 2014, we welcomed two sisters, Champagne (a Poodle mix) and Mundial (a Griffon–Doodle mix). In 2017, my mum rescued Grisou, a Domestic Longhair–Maine Coon mix cat. Finally, in 2021, we added Haven, a Havachon (a mix of Havanese and Bichon). Each of them has a unique personality, which taught me how important it is to adapt care to every individual pet.

I offer home visits, house sitting, and dog walking, always focusing on safety, comfort, and maintaining each pet’s usual routine. During walks, I stay alert to surroundings, follow leash rules, and adjust the pace to suit the dog’s energy level.

I have experience training my own dogs using basic commands such as sit, wait, and gentle guidance before meals. While I’m not a professional trainer, I’m confident reinforcing good behaviour and closely following owners’ instructions. I’m also comfortable administering oral medication when required.

I pay special attention to shy or anxious pets. For example, Champagne was very timid (the complete opposite of her sister) when we first got her, but by moving slowly, playing gently, and building trust, she became much more relaxed and confident. I use the same patient and gentle approach with pets in my care.

I believe clear communication is important, so I’m happy to keep owners updated with messages and photos during visits to provide peace of mind.
