Kia Ora!!

My name is Maiata and I'm from the Cook Islands. I'm here in New Zealand to study Law and Politics (it's my first year :)) and I happened to stumble across Pawshake.

I absolutely adore animals and have spent most of my life taking care of family pets, from ducks and chickens to cats and dogs.

I have two cute doggies, Jinxie and Molly, who live in Rarotonga. Whenever I get the chance to go home, I love taking them on car rides and walks along the beach. I also help take care of my Aunty's three cats, Yuki, Petunia and Oakley, in West Auckland when she has busy plans during the day. They're a very energetic bunch, but I keep them entertained as best I can!

My dog Jinxie has had issues with heartworm over the last 3 years, so my family and I are very careful about keeping her safe, happy and healthy. This has taught me how important it is to pay attention to a pet's individual needs and wellbeing.

When it comes to pet safety during walks, I always make sure pets are kept in suitable and secure areas. I prefer quieter, pet-friendly places such as Albert Park and will avoid busy roads and crowded areas around the CBD where possible. I will also keep a close eye on your pet throughout the walk, making sure they are comfortable and not put into situations that could make them anxious or unsafe. I'm always happy to follow any specific walking instructions you provide, including preferred routes, walking pace and anything your pet may need extra care with.

For home visits, I make sure your pets remain safe and comfortable in their familiar environment. I'll follow your instructions carefully regarding feeding, medication if applicable, toilet breaks, doors and gates, and anything else you normally do to keep your pets safe. I'll also make sure doors and entrances are properly secured before leaving and will never let a pet outside unless that is something you have specifically asked me to do. I'm happy to send photos and updates during visits so you know how your pets are doing.

I'm always keen for a walk and play around with dogs that might just have a lot of energy to spare, which has led me to offer dog walking services. Typically, walks can be around 30 minutes to an hour and a half, around areas close to your residence or at a nearby park if available.

A typical pet-sitting visit would involve keeping your pets entertained with toys and lots of pets and scratches if they're wanted haha :) I'll make sure they're fed at the proper times and given everything they need according to your instructions. I understand that every pet has their own personality and routine, so I'm happy to work around what makes them feel most comfortable.

I tend to prefer communicating through messages or WhatsApp, and I can always take photos during visits or walks to give you peace of mind and let you know how your pets are doing.

Ideally, I would hope to pet sit dogs or cats, but if there's another pet you're looking to have taken care of, I'd be happy to have a discussion about them, what you would need and the type of care you're looking for.

I am based in the city centre (Auckland) as I live in University Halls. With my current living situation, I'm only able to accommodate dog walking services or home visits within a 2km radius on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays. This is also due to a heavy uni schedule 🥲.

However, times are semi-flexible. Ideally, dog walking services would be between 6am to 8am or 11am to 2pm, and I can always negotiate the price or time depending on what works best for both parties. 😊
