My wife and I were the go-to pet lovers for our friends so when we moved back to Dunedin and were looking for a house we decided to formalise it and began doing it more frequently. 

We have been fortunate enough over the last two years to have house-sat/pet-sat 10 dogs, 6 cats, 8 kittens (all at once!), 60 chickens, 7 sheep and 2 cows. We've had multiple repeats which is brilliant as we really get to build a relationship with the pets. A couple of these beauties we were entrusted with extended tenures even up to 2 months at a time.

If it's not immediately apparent, animals make me tick. I work with animals, I visit our friends for their animals. Animals are at the core of a lot of my decision making. Even travel! 

We've just bought our first home and are in the late stages of expecting our first child so have put staying in other people's homes on the backburner for now but it means some of my other skills can be utilised.

I work with cat and dog shelters/rescues all around the country on a day-to-day basis building a (free!) digital product for them to adopt out their animals on.

I absolutely love being able to help out in any way I can and this has grown to be able to include basic training for pups and socialisation when needed. I'm in a state of constantly learning and loving it, so much so that I'm currently studying Canine Psychology in the background in my own time so I can put names to some of the things I'm seeing and learning.

I'm Pet First Aid certified, so I carry a specific pet first aid kit with me, so you can rest assured in knowing that if the unthinkable happens, I'm prepared. I've also administered a wide variety of medications to a wide variety of animals!

One of the joys of working with animals is making them feel secure so they can be their best, happy-go-lucky selves. Whether this is through a bit of structure or just through being the companion they need at that point in time. If you see me out and about, you'll notice I'm not on my phone as during our time together, I'll be observing your animal so I can pick up on anything and respond when necessary.

One thing I learned from pet-sitting that I've carried through is that it's nobody's desired state to be away from their beloved animals, so my role is to be able to provide whatever you're not able to at that particular time. Whether it's exercise, medication, behaviour correction or just some well-earned, loving scritches.

If your animal is not vaccinated, socialised or just plain doesn't like others that's absolutely fine as I have experience with these and arrangements can be made.
