Looking for someone caring, qualified, attentive, and confident to care for your animals while you get away? My name is April and I’m a graduate from Waikato University.
To start off I have a Bachelor's degree majoring in animal behaviour. This means I have trained in recognising stress behaviours and know to manage them (with a little help from Mark Vette). This becomes extra useful when pet minding as pets being left without their beloved companions can be a daunting time. I also have animal care certificates through NZQA and was employed by the SPCA as a first response and an senior animal attendant for three years.
I am happy to come out to feed, medicate and exercise animals up to twice daily if needed. If you live rural I will charge a few dollars extra to cover petrol, but more then happy to travel. Being fit and active I am happy to take your dog(s) out to the beach or where ever they love most for an hour walk per day. With cat feeding, I am happy to come out twice daily for half-hour visits to feed, change litter and any other small duties. Whilst you are away it’s a great idea to lock cats inside during the night to ensure their safety.
I have experience, knowledge and confidence around livestock and farm animals. During my visits, I can let your dogs out for an hour run whilst feeding your farm animals. I am available to spend an hour feeding any animals and changing horse covers if necessary.
Currently, I am currently working full time at Hastings Hospital in the laboratory. If you are looking to book my services during week days and live more then a 15 minute drive from the hospital I will require a little extra petrol money to cover the extra travel expenses. I miss working with animals daily so would love to spend some time caring for yours.

Thanks, April, Excellent job for my two little Covoodles in my home. It's always a worry leaving them with someone but the pictures you sent me helped a lot. Nice and tidy and I hope you enjoyed the stay. I'd have you look after them again any day.
April was very good to communicate with and very accomodating with our 19 year old Samoyed Molly she looked after Molly excellently and sent pictures every day so we did not have to worry about anything April was very good as we were about three hours late picking up Molly due to traffic on way back from Whangarei and April adjusted her day for us , I highly recommend April as it is obvious she cares for the animals she works with and look forward to using her again in the future , thanks April you made it possible to us being able to visit relatives Happy New Year. David
Over the past 2 years I have worked at the Hawkesbay SPCA as the senior animal attendant. Working at the SPCA requires me to administer oral and injected medications to our shelter family daily. This year I decided to go on my big over seas adventure to the USA where I worked for 2 months in the horse stables at a childrens summer camp. I have grown up on a farm around all farm animals and am confident working around any animal large or small.
I graduated from the University of Waikato with my batchelors degree majoring in animal behavior in 2017. During my time spent at University and with the SPCA I have worked with cats, dogs, horses, turtles, alpacas, pigs, goats, cows, sheep, birds, rabbits, mice and reptiles.
I am currently an auxillary officer (AO) for the SPCA and MPI New Zealand, criminal checks must be completed and cleared to get your AO.
I have completed NZQA vet nursing qualifications whilst working for the SPCA
