Hey, I'm Emilie. I am 23 years old. I am originally from Pukekohe, but living in Pokeno.
I live at home with my big baby Keira, a 12 year old Keeshond. I sometimes baby sit my sisters dogs; Tex, a 5 year old Huntaway x, and Carley, a 5 year old Shitzu x Maltese. (See last photo for family dogs)
I am most familiar with dogs, because I constantly grew up around them, however, in early stages of my childhood and through university and work, I have been exposed to many different animals, resulting in my knowledge only growing. I hope that through pet sitting I can receive more experience hands on and therefore enhance my education.
I am a 2nd year veterinary student at Unitec Institute of Technology in Mt Albert. At university, I spend a lot of my time studying animal physiology, anatomy and psychology so I have a wide range of knowledge. I am hoping to later go into working with marine life and animal related occupations.
Due to being a student this allows me the flexibility with staying at home with your furry friends. I am only required on campus for tests as I recently made the move to online learning, which allows me to study at home while keeping an eye on your pets.
I have previously spent time in university with birds, cats, dogs, rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits and lizards (as well as a bearded dragon). I have also spent majority of my childhood helping out on a farm with cows, chickens, sheep, horses and ducks.
I prioritize the health and wellbeing of your beloved family pet to the max. I have experience with animal welfare and the current code of conduct as well as previous one week experience in a SPCA shelter. Whether you have a playful pup or a curious cat, it is my goal to go above and beyond to establish a safe and loving environment ensuring they can be their happiest selves in your absence.
I'm currently working at Spookers Haunted Attraction (which always makes for a great conversation starter!!). I have been working there for 6 years. This means some of my weekends are often spent working late nights there but I am still free during the day. This is a crucial part of my life so I must make it very clear that weekend pet sitting would mean your fur baby is left alone for a period of time however I am always back to taking care of them when I get back.
I am currently doing unpaid work experience in a Veterinary clinic. I get a lot of hands on experience with all sort of domestic animals every day, and am able to pick up on the demeanor and some sicknesses known to animals, however I can not diagnose but can recommend when it may be appropriate to see a vet.
I recently worked in Dog Grooming at Dogworkz Pokeno. Here I spent most days washing, drying and grooming dogs. This happened to be dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes. We also happily specialized in grooming dogs with behavioral problems and those that were difficult or new to grooming.
As part of Sitting it is at most least that I will do the following;
1) Feeding and fresh water:
I will follow your instructions regarding diet and feeding schedule.
2) Playtime:
I will happily engage your pets in stimulating play sessions or any activities you normally do. This also includes cuddles and belly rubs, if they're comfortable.
3) Walking and Toilet:
For Dogs, I will take them on daily walks and/or runs as per your recommendation and of course the age and ability of your pup, allowing for a little exercise and for toilet breaks.
For Cats, I will clean and maintain their little box as per your usual routine.
4) Frequent updates:
If requested, I am more than happy to fill you in about how your pets coping in your absence, including photos and messages.
5) A clean home:
Of course, a clean home is a happy home. I will ensure your home is kept as it was among arrival and that your fur baby remains in a clean and comfortable environment.
Rest assured, your pets will recieve the utmost care, love and attention with me. Thank you for taking the time to read about me and I hope to meet you and your furry friend very soon!!
