Hello, I’m Emilie. I’m 23 years old and originally from Pukekohe, though I now live in Ramarama. I used to live at home with my beloved Keira, a 12-year-old Keeshond, who I still consider my big baby. Occasionally, I also look after my sister’s dogs: Tex, a 5-year-old Huntaway x Black Lab x Greyhound Pointer, and Carley, a 5-year-old Shih Tzu x Maltese (you can see them in the last photo). I currently live on a farm where I care for three cats, a goat, and six chickens. The property next door has horses, a pig, a lamb, two dogs, and a duck.

Growing up around dogs, I am most familiar with them, but my exposure to a wide range of animals during my childhood and throughout my university and work experiences has greatly expanded my knowledge. Living on a farm has only furthered my understanding of animal care, and I’m eager to gain more hands-on experience through pet sitting to continue learning.

I am currently a second-year veterinary nurse student at the Unitec Institute of Technology in Mt Albert. My studies focus on animal physiology, anatomy, and psychology, providing me with a well-rounded knowledge of animals. In the future, I hope to work in an animal-related field and continue developing my expertise. During my time at university, I’ve gained experience with birds, cats, dogs, rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, lizards, and even a bearded dragon. Additionally, I spent much of my childhood helping on a farm with cows, chickens, sheep, horses, and ducks.

I take the health and wellbeing of your pets very seriously. With my experience in animal welfare and knowledge of the current codes of conduct, as well as my background with the SPCA and in a veterinary clinic, I ensure that your pets receive the best care possible. Whether you have a playful dog or a curious cat, I strive to create a safe and loving environment for them so they can enjoy their time in your absence.

My work experience at a veterinary clinic has given me hands-on experience with a variety of animals, and I’ve developed a keen understanding of animal behavior and potential health concerns. While I am not qualified to diagnose illnesses, I can recognize signs that may require veterinary attention and will always recommend a visit if needed.

In addition, I have worked in dog grooming at Dogworkz in Pokeno, where I groomed dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes. This role also allowed me to specialize in dogs with behavioral issues or those who were new to grooming, further expanding my experience.

As a pet sitter, I am committed to providing the following:

1. Feeding and Fresh Water: I will follow your instructions regarding your pet’s diet and feeding schedule.

2. Playtime: I’m happy to engage your pet in fun and stimulating activities, including cuddles and belly rubs (if they’re comfortable with that!).

3. Walks and Toilet Breaks: For dogs, I will take them on daily walks or runs based on your preferences and their age/ability. I’ll also ensure toilet breaks are taken care of. For cats, I’ll maintain their litter box as per your usual routine.

4. Frequent Updates: If you’d like, I will provide regular updates, including photos and messages, so you can stay connected with your pet.

5. A Clean Home: I’ll make sure your home remains clean and tidy, just as it was when I arrived, creating a comfortable environment for your pet.
