Hi, I'm Jo, and I'd love to help you with providing the best possible care for your pets.
I'm a qualified veterinary nurse and experienced animal handler with over 15 years experience caring for a variety of domestic pets, including birds, reptiles and small animals such as mice, rats and chinchillas.
After working in one of NZ's leading dog daycares for 6 years, I went back to university and am able to offer pet care services again on a casual basis. My availability and schedule are flexible as I'm currently writing my thesis from home. I am able to administer any medication or special care that your pet needs.
I have experience with all sizes and most breeds of dog, and am confident with energetic dogs or those with extra health or behavioural needs. I am able to offer basic obedience dog training (as well as a few tricks!). Walks can be on-leash, or off-leash at our favourite park with ponds to swim in.
Dog walks are at least 30 minutes, (1-hour walks are available on request). I customise walks to suit the needs of you and your dog, from a relaxed stroll to a high-energy workout. Basic obedience training is also available.
Home visits are 45-60 minutes, and include anything you need to keep your household ticking over and your pets happy - feeding & refreshing water, administering medication (including injectable medications), brushing/basic grooming, bringing in your mail, watering plants, etc. Please ask if you have any particular requirements and I will do my best to meet your needs.
I am offering housesitting for households that I am able to bring my dog Leroy along with me. Leroy is very well-socialised with other dogs, having spent years attending a large dog daycare and dog parks regularly. He is calm in general and once he has said hello to another dog he tends to leave them alone, though he does enjoy another dog's company for walks and naps (or the occasional play if they are the right match!). Leroy is safe with cats and will leave them alone once I remind him not to try and say hello - he lives with two cats and various cats and kittens that I have rescued & fostered in the past. Leroy is housetrained and not destructive in a home, but also has a crate that he is happy to sleep in and be confined to when needed so that he is not left unsupervised in your home or with your pets, for your peace of mind. My time spent at home varies, sometimes I am home all day and other days I might be out for the day - I am able to confirm my schedule based on the dates you require. I take the security of your home very seriously, and will abide by any requirements you have such as locks and alarms.
Jo is amazing, sent us the most gorgeous pics of our girls having a lovely time while we were away, went above and beyond and we came home to an immaculate house and very happy fur babies, she is just lovely, very experienced and was so wonderful with our slightly anxious rescue dog and elderly cat, highly recommend Jo!
What a great find! Thanks Jo for taking such good care of our puppy Louie and our home while we were away. Louie loved meeting Jo’s pets and going on little excursions with her. She also helped with some puppy training at the same time!
