About Ann

I work as a researcher in Animal Computer Interaction, which does not mean I think computers are the solution. I do really love working with activation and enrichment and helping animals live their best lives. For this, lots of tangible objects are involved along with careful observation of interactions. As well, I do some research work with zoo animals and types of useful monitoring technologies to detect situations that are difficult for the animals. I am always changing up activations for my own Kleiner Münsterländer (an active hunter, even at 11 years) dog and garden-rescue cat.

I am happy to do home visits and also to dog walk and play with your animals. My sessions would be for at least 30 minutes per animal. I can walk and home visit locally in New Lynn and surrounding areas as well as I am in the city most days at the gym and the office (AUT, Head of Research for School of Future Environments) and as you would need me to be. I would call in on the animals on the way to and from the workplace and the gym. I can provide oral medications and some walking and play training. I can walk up to 2 dogs daily and do up to 2 home visits. I have a large fully-fenced backyard. I have been researching and working with companion animals since 2011 and we've always had cats n' dogs in the family. I am told I have a rapport with animals and they are drawn to me. I'm certainly very happy hanging out with and being around animals. And they seem to reciprocate. I don't agree with any aversive methods of training or animal care. Animal Welfare and quality of life are very important to me, so I prefer you would provide a harness to walk your dog. I am a strong advocate for 'Do No Harm Dog Training' and am happy to work with your dog with positive training methods to achieve this.

Ann was an excellent carer for our pets while we were away. We were updated with photos and messages at each visit. She was caring and had great communication throughout. She has a passion for animal wellbeing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her or use her services again in future. Thank you Ann!

Ann was a great dog walker, you can tell she has a lot of experience with dogs. Harvey and Charlie had a great time with Ann. Would recommend to anyone looking for a dog walker.

Familiar with dog training techniques
I've been working as a researcher and with my own and other's animals looking at the quality of life and behavioural modifications that can help with that--and play-- since 2011. I'm at my best around animals and I love to see them comfortable, relaxed and activated. I've read a lot, tried a lot and worked in various zoos and clinical settings, learning a lot as I go. I've lived in Denmark and Finland for 8 years, so I have lots of their activation-type artefacts. I'm more than happy to do a little walking training and play and activation activities on home visits. This is what makes the world a better place for our animals. They rely so much on us for everything, so I try to observe and listen to what their needs are. I'm very much in the 'Do No Harm' mindset. My preference is to walk dogs in harnesses as they are the most comfortable for the dogs and sensible to help guide them on their walks. I won't use e.g. shock collars or chains. If you are using those, I am happy to advise on harnesses and oversee and activate retraining the dog, but I will not use these. I have conversational 'cafe' French and largely written Danish
